New EMAS Interim Chairman appointed

Following the decision by the current East Midlands Ambulance Service Chairman, Chris Faircliffe to retire at the end of June, the Trust has announced that Jon Towler has been appointed Interim Chairman of the Board of EMAS.

Jon graduated in 1991 from Reims Business School with a double degree in International Business Administration and then spent the early part of his career in international sales management. He moved into general management roles in the late 1990s, spending 8 years as a Director of the UK’s leading wholesaler of office products.

Jon joined NHS Nottinghamshire County in January 2009 as a non-executive director and took on the role of Acting Chair from October 2010, overseeing a £37.1million financial recovery programme.

Commenting on his appointment, Jon said: “EMAS is embarking on an exciting journey to achieve Foundation Trust status and I am delighted to be able to take up the opportunity of driving that process forward.”

All non executive appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Jon Towler has not declared any political activity and holds no other ministerial appointments.

Mr Towler’s term of office runs from 01 July 2011 to 30 June 2013.

This appointment has been made in accordance with the OCPA Code of Practice.
