Bringing life to death: The chain of survival – what more do ambulance services need to do to improve outcomes?

Session Information

Survival from Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) has stagnated. For more than 40 years, less than one in ten patients survive a cardiac arrest in the UK.

Even fewer will leave hospital with good neurological function. Ambulance services can deliver transformative initiatives to ensure the delivery of an optimal chain of survival with a focus upon the ‘bystander action’ and mobilisation of the community.

Effective use of GoodSAM, defibrillator deployment and reducing inequalities across the system are fundamental to bringing life to death.

We will explore the true impact and stark reality of OHCA and how it affects survivors and bystanders.
