Ryan Ware

Deputy Head of Volunteering & Community Services

SWAST

Ryan started his ambulance service career in 2003 as a volunteer Community First Responder and secured employment as an Ambulance Care Assistant in 2005. Throughout his development journey as a clinician, Ryan has worked in various roles from Care Assistant to Lead Paramedic but has always been linked to and taken an interest in his origins of first responding and volunteering. He moved into a management role in volunteering in 2016 when he joined the Responder Department where he recruited, trained and supported CFRs in Devon.

In 2019, Ryan took on the role of Lead Responder Officer in 2022 and became the Deputy Head of Volunteering & Community Services when the department was renamed to reflect the wider range of volunteering opportunities and community initiatives now offered and supported by the department.

He is extremely proud of his ambulance volunteering background and is thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to be involved in and influence the AACE Volunteering Strategy, and especially being Chair of the Dashboard Task & Finish Group. The richness and diversity that volunteering brings to organisations, and the value being added to patient care, staff welfare and organisational growth by volunteers every day is to be celebrated, and he is delighted the Volunteering Dashboard is beginning to demonstrate sound evidence of this.
