Anna Parry, Managing Director of the Association of Ambulance Chief Executives (AACE), has welcomed the publication of ‘Fit for the Future’ – England’s 10 Year Health Plan – on 3 July 2025, saying:
Transformational change begins with optimism and vision – and this Plan offers both. It lays the foundations for an NHS that is modern, forward-thinking, and focused squarely on the needs and convenience of patients and their communities.
The NHS Change consultation made clear that patients and staff alike agree the current model is unsustainable. For ambulance teams – long on the front line of rising demand – this confirmation comes as no surprise. The sector has often served as the ‘canary in the coalmine,’ stepping in when people have nowhere else to turn.
That’s why we welcome this ambitious plan, which we hope marks the starting point for meaningful system reform. The ambulance sector stands ready to play a greater role in shaping, delivering high-quality care, and navigating patients across and around the urgent and emergency care system, using technology and our expanding clinical expertise to reach more people in their neighbourhoods – innovatively, effectively, and with renewed purpose.
