Guidance for inbetween ages

Q. Is there any official guidance on which Page for Age to use for patients who fall in between ages and where the weight is not known. For example, a 4 month old, should the 3 or 6 month guidelines be used?

A. There is no official guidance on this. You could go either way if you are in between an age group and it is unlikely to make a clinical difference. If the child’s weight is known you should go on the weight rather than the age. Common sense and clinical judgement should be used as the weights used are an average for the age of the child.
