Morphine dose table for IV/IO (not end of life) for an adult under 50kg

Guideline :
Morphine dose table for IV/IO (not end of life) for an adult under 50kg

Question and answer:

Q. Regarding the morphine dose table for IV/IO (not end of life). Is the dose for an adult under 50kg correct? Should the initial dose actually be 5mg and if not what is the rationale, given that a child of 6 years old can also receive 2mg?
A. The dose is correct. Some adults living with frailty (<50kg), and some older people, can be very sensitive to morphine so the intention is to give it slowly (2mg at a time). This can be repeated up to 5 times to 10mg because we also recognise that up to 10mg may be required for adequate analgesia.
