Paracetamol and ibuprofen

Guideline :
Paracetamol and ibuprofen

Question and answer: Q&A: A query has been raised as to whether Paracetamol and Ibuprofen can be administered together. The majority of patients have normally functioning liver and kidneys and so they can have both Paracetamol and Ibuprofen as part of the same treatment regime. This is common everyday practice. If a patient has severe liver disease then Paracetamol is contraindicated and so they should not be receiving it. The use of appropriate dosages will be down to clinical judgement of the weight and the age of patient. The choice of drug to be used should be based on clinical judgement, taking into account factors such as the cause of the pain, level of fever, apparent degree of pain/discomfort felt, what medication the patient has already received etc.
