The “innovative and influential” chief executive of the East of England Ambulance Service has been hailed as one of the best NHS leaders by a health publication.
Dr Anthony Marsh appears in the Health Service Journal’s ‘Top 50’ list of chief executives and the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) chief was judged by a panel of leading experts, including NHS England Medical Director Sir Bruce Keogh, to be one of the most outstanding ambulance bosses in the country.
The HSJ said of Dr Marsh: “Our judges appreciated his presence on the frontline – he worked during the riots – and the way he has established good relationships with colleagues in the police and in mental health services.”
In an extensive ambulance career beginning in patient transport services in Essex 27 years ago, Dr Marsh, who is also Chief at West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (WMAS), was Chief Executive of Essex Ambulance Service, held similar senior posts in a number of services across the country and in 2012, was awarded Doctor of Science from the University of Wolverhampton. Most recently, he received a Queen’s Ambulance Service Medal in Her Majesty’s New Year’s Honours.
Following the announcement today (Friday) that he had made this year’s list, Dr Marsh said:
“I am very touched and flattered to have been chosen by the expert panel, and to be ranked alongside some fantastic colleagues across the country.
“But crucially, it is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of ambulance staff who work with me, the passionate way in which they go about their work and how proud they are to work for the NHS, and the way in which we can better support staff to ultimately provide excellent care for patients.”
