The Association of Ambulance Chief Executives and the British Medical Association (BMA), alongside a wide range of stakeholders from alcohol harm and medical organisations to police, emergency services groups, and road safety charities, have developed a consensus statement on alcohol, drugs and driving.
The statement was launched on the 17th June at an event at BMA House, where we heard from speakers who highlighted the harms caused by alcohol and drug use, especially on the road, and why this work is so important.
This statement includes recommendations which work together to reduce the harms caused by substance misuse on the road:
- Lowering the legal blood alcohol content limit for driving
- Ensuring adequate enforcement of new drink and current drug driving limits
- Educating the public
- Ensuring adequate alcohol and drug treatment services capacity and capabilities.
- Other preventative policy mechanisms to address alcohol and drug use.
We encourage all organisations who are interested in addressing alcohol and drug related harm to click the link below to view the statement and access additional resources.
