AACE to speak at The Future of Urgent and Emergency Care Services Event

The AACE are delighted to be part of a forthcoming event led by Inside Government, looking at The Future of Urgent and Emergency Care Services.

IG logoAdmissions to accident and emergency departments across the UK have risen by nearly 50% in recent years. With one in five patients in England admitting they have misused hospital emergency departments (Healthwatch England 2014), there is a definite need to achieve highly responsive, effective and personalised care services out of hospital for patients with non-life threatening needs.

In November 2013 the first stage of Sir Bruce Keogh’s ‘Urgent and Emergency Review’  was published. The review recommends the development of a collaborative emergency care system that enables acute care to be provided effectively, minimising risk and maximising the chances of positive recovery.

Moreover, transforming the emergency care system is a critical feature of CCGs strategic five year plans, emphasising the importance of commissioning local services that will reduce hospital admissions. This is in line with the 2013 Better Care Fund guidance which outlines the need for emergency hospital expenditure to reduce by 15% through a substantial shift towards community care.

Objectives

This The Future of Urgent and Emergency Care Services forum will enable delegates to examine the government’s vision for reforming acute care provision. Delegates will hear insight into best practice case studies surrounding the commissioning of urgent care services, effectively meeting emergency demand, using technology to reduce A&E admissions and heightening quality across all acute services.

Audience

Delegates who will have an interest in this event will include heads of emergency care, clinical directors, heads of A&E departments, GPs, nurses, community care providers, representatives from the ambulance services, members of health and wellbeing boards, consultants, the wider health sector and the private sector.
