The Association of Ambulance Chief Executives (AACE) has welcomed the findings of a landmark study, published today in the New England Journal of Medicine that looked at the effect of Adrenaline on patients who had suffered an out of hospital cardiac arrest.
Dr Julian Mark, Executive Medical Director, Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust and Chair of the National Ambulance Services Medical Directors’ Group (NASMeD) said:
We welcome the publication of research which increases the evidence base for interventions made during pre-hospital resuscitation attempts in order to improve the proportion of patients who return to independent living following out of hospital cardiac arrest.
National guidance for ambulance clinicians will be amended to reflect any changes to current practice that the Resuscitation Council (UK) recommends following publication of the results of the Paramedic 2 study.
In the interim, NHS ambulance service clinicians will continue to follow established practice in the treatment of patients who suffer an out of hospital cardiac arrest.
