The Association of Ambulance Chief Executives (AACE) has welcomed today’s announcement by the Department of Health and Social Care to include student paramedics in a new £5,000 annual support payment from September 2020 – the first time paramedic students will benefit from additional NHS funding while at university.
National Strategic Adviser of Ambulance Services and Chair of the Association of Ambulance Chief Executives, Anthony Marsh, said:
It is crucial that we expand the paramedic workforce today to meet the growing demand for ambulance services tomorrow, which is why the announcement of this new financial support package for paramedic students is particularly welcome.
Alongside the many initiatives the ambulance service is undertaking to recruit new staff, we hope this new £5,000 annual maintenance grant will also help encourage more people to consider the many positive benefits of a career as a life-saving, life-changing paramedic.
