Changes to the Royal Warrant for the Ambulance Service (Emergency Duties) Long Service and Good Conduct Medal

Ambulance EOC staff

The Ambulance Service (Emergency Duties) Long Service and Good Conduct Medal has existed since 1995 to recognise and reward the hard work and dedication of staff.

Now, following collaborative work between the Association of Ambulance Chief Executives (AACE) and officials in the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) we are pleased to announce that more ambulance staff will now be eligible to receive these awards.

The October 2024 update to the Royal Warrant officially:

  1. extends role eligibility and the qualifying service criteria, so that it better recognises the complexity and range of staff roles, professions and career routes employed in modern day ambulance services
  2. ensures that the medal, in line with other emergency services, now recognises staff who reach career milestones of not only 20 years but also 30 and 40 years

Karin Smyth MP Minister of State DHSCMinister Karin Smyth, Minister of State for Health said:

I am delighted to announce the expansion of the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal for our ambulance service, including extending the eligibility of these awards to 999 call handlers and ambulance dispatchers.

This change recognises the decades of dedication from emergency operations centre staff in these vital roles.

Thank you to staff across the ambulance sector for your continued commitment to providing lifesaving treatment and helping patients in their hour of greatest need.

Anna ParryAnna Parry, Managing Director of the Association of Ambulance Chief Executives, said:

We are extremely pleased that the eligibility for these two important awards has been extended for NHS ambulance staff and we are grateful for the significant commitment and collaborative working that was demonstrated by our DHSC colleagues – working alongside ourselves – to amend the existing Royal Warrant and effect these changes.
