Clinical practice update around management of Shoulder Dystocia

The updated guidance around management of the birth delivery complication shoulder dystocia has been developed further to a Coroner’s ruling following the death of a baby at birth, and has had advice and input from specialists in obstetrics and midwifery.

The updated guidance is specifically around the use of gentle traction (both outward and downward) and applying traction in conjunction with supra pubic pressure.

Please read the attached letter from NASMED Chair Fionna Moore, as well as the Clinical Practice Update it refers to.
