At 8am today (16 January 2013) London Ambulance Service received a number of calls to reports of a helicopter crash in Central London. The Trust sent a motorcycle responder, seven ambulance crews, its hazardous area response team (HART), the air ambulance’s medical team in a car and four officers to the scene, with the first crew arriving in under four minutes. Sadly two people were confirmed dead at the scene whilst various others were treated at the scene or taken to London hospitals.
Ambulance Operations Manager Pauline Cranmer said: “We would like to offer our condolences to the family and friends of the two people who sadly died today. “The patients we treated had quite minor injuries, including cuts and bruises and minor burns, and a number of people were understandably quite shocked at what they’d seen. We worked closely with our colleagues from other emergency services to quickly establish what had happened and to ensure that no one else was put in any further danger.” LAS opened a reception centre to support members of the public who were affected by the accident and who may need support and care.
