Chief Executive David Whiting has tendered his resignation and it has been agreed he steps down immediately to allow new arrangements to be put in place.
On leaving David said, “This is not a sudden decision but something that I have been reflecting on for a number of months. There is never a good time to undertake a change of Chief Executive; however, as we approach a New Year with new challenges and exciting opportunities I believe YAS will benefit from a change of leadership, bringing fresh ideas and insights to keep YAS moving in the right direction.
From a personal point of view, I feel it is also right for me to pursue new challenges and opportunities.
“As I leave, my reflections are that we have much to be proud of – a fantastic team of dedicated people, committed to delivering the best possible services for patients. We continue to lead the country in relation to key patient outcomes in major trauma and cardiac arrest survival, and I hope you continue to lead on initiatives around citizen CPR training and public access defibrillators, which will save even more lives in the future.
“I have been proud to lead the organisation and proud of the many achievements of our people. I wish everyone the very best and I will watch with interest the progress you will continue to make.”
Accepting David’s resignation Chairman Della Cannings QPM said, ”Over the last four years David has worked hard so that YAS is an asset to Yorkshire and its communities providing quality emergency and urgent care services, NHS 111, Patient Transport Service and other services. No other ambulance service has such a comprehensive suite of offers to the public. On behalf of the Trust Board I want to thank David for his leadership, the significant contribution he has made to the progress of YAS towards becoming a Foundation Trust and over 33 years working in the NHS. I wish David well in his new ventures.
“The Trust Board will now help ensure the smooth transition to Rod Barnes, currently Executive Director of Finance and Performance and Deputy Chief Executive, who leads YAS as Interim Chief Executive from today. We will also begin the formal recruitment process for a new permanent Chief Executive who can help us build upon David’s work and continue on our journey to become a Foundation Trust.
“The Interim Chief Executive will advise of the necessary changes that will be required amongst senior management for the period of transition. Change is unsettling I know, but, I am confident that you will work with the new top team to ensure we deliver.”
