As we celebrate International Women’s Day 2025 on 8 March 2025, the Association of Ambulance Chief Executives (AACE) is pleased to spotlight the important role of the NHS Muslim Women’s Network.

NHS Muslim Women's Network Feb 2025

The NHS Muslim Women’s Network is a collective that seeks to support and represent Muslim women across the NHS, including ambulance services. Its main role involves advocating for the needs, interests and challenges faced by Muslim women working in healthcare, as well as promoting diversity and inclusion within the NHS.

The network focuses on creating a safe and supportive environment where Muslim women can raise issues related to their work, cultural and religious needs. This includes addressing concerns around workplace discrimination, religious accommodations and career development.

Additionally, the NHS Muslim Women’s Network works to ensure that Muslim women’s voices are heard in healthcare policy discussions, with the aim of improving healthcare delivery for Muslim communities.

The network also provides opportunities for professional development, networking and support, encouraging Muslim women to take leadership roles in the NHS.

NHS Muslim Women's Network Feb 2025 AACE - for sharing

In February, AACE hosted members of the NHS Muslim Women’s Network to facilitate a conversational event that focused on three main outcomes:

  • To explore and understand intersectional experiences and perspectives of Muslim women from different cultural, social and religious backgrounds.
  • To challenge and break stereotypes and misconceptions about Muslim women by providing a platform for open and respectful dialogue.
  • To discuss the challenges and barriers faced by Muslim women and what this means for the ambulance sector.

We heard from the Co-Chair of the network and a colleague working within the sector, who shared their story of being a Muslim woman navigating ambulance culture, career progression and personal growth.

The slides from the session can be accessed here.
