ALF 2024: over 1000 delegates attend groundbreaking online event

By Helen Vine, Assistant Director, AACE

On 8 October, over a thousand delegates from a broad range of ambulance services and other organisations attended ALF 2024, the prestigious annual event in the Association of Ambulance Chief Executive’s ambulance calendar.

In a first for AACE, ALF 2024 was open to all staff and volunteers from the ambulance sector and wider partners and stakeholders. The intention was to create an inclusive event where content was of interest and relevance to our wider audience.

With a range of live and pre-recorded content available there was something for everyone and the feedback from delegates proved it was a truly groundbreaking event, not just in terms of the numbers of attendees but also the broad range of topics covered within a slick online forum.

Some of the highlights included:

  • Author and speaker Laura Bates shared how we can all exercise leadership in tackling everyday sexism and misogyny.
  • Chief paramedics Pauline Cranmer and Andrew Hodge shared their plans to increase the visibility of paramedic leadership at board level.
  • Frontline and clinical staff gained an insight into how we can all lead on reducing health inequalities for our patients from Habib Naqvi, chief executive at The Race and Health Observatory.
  • A team of colleagues from AACE, London Ambulance Service and King George Hospital Trust discussed how they had collaborated to reduce delayed hospital handovers.
  • Jason Killens Chair of AACE hosted a panel discussion about the future for ambulance services under the new Government, with guests Saffron Cordery from NHS Providers, Siva Anandaciva from The King’s Fund and Simon Weldon, Chief Executive of South East Coast Ambulance Service taking questions from the audience.

Speaking at the event finale, Anna Parry, Managing Director at AACE said;

Never underestimate the power we have as leaders, at whatever level, in our respective organisations.

Thank you for joining us at ALF2024 and we hope you found it insightful and useful in your leadership journey.

All of the content was filmed, and along with several Videos On Demand (VODs) covering a range of topics, is available to view online until March 2025.
