Video: the role of 999 Call Handler at SECAmb

Have you ever wondered what its like to be a 999 Call Handler? These dedicated staff are the first point of contact for the public, their decisions are crucial to the successful outcome of many patients emergency situations.

The 999 Call Handler team (known internally as Emergency Medical Advisers) use a triage system called NHS Pathways to assess the severity of a 999 call and provide life saving advice whilst the ambulance service response is on its way.

The staff in the SECAmb Emergency Operation Centers (EOC) are the people behind the scenes, without whom the ambulance service could not function.  The above film, “Breathe” explains more about the amazing work of SECAmb’s call takers.
